What the GPA Calculator does
Grade point average is the credit-weighted mean of your grade points. Each course grade converts to points on your institution’s scale, gets multiplied by that course’s credit hours to give quality points, and the total is divided by total credits — so heavier courses move your GPA more.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted treats every course the same on a 4.0 maximum. Weighted adds bonus points for harder courses, so an A in AP can be worth 5.0 — which is why weighted GPAs sometimes exceed 4.0.
Why does a course with more credits affect my GPA more?
Because GPA is credit-weighted. A 4-credit course contributes four times the quality points of a 1-credit course, so it carries four times the influence.
Do failed or retaken courses count?
Policies differ. Many institutions replace the original grade on a retake, others average both. Check your registrar before assuming an F drops off.
