What the Grade Percentage Calculator does
A grade percentage is marks earned divided by marks available. The letter grade shown uses the common US scale with plus and minus bands — your institution may set different cut-offs.

Reading the result
- The percentage is marks earned over marks available, independent of any grading scale laid over it.
- The letter bands are the common US scale with plus and minus grades. Your institution may set different cut-offs, and some drop the plus and minus entirely.
Assumptions and limitations
- All marks are treated as equally weighted. Where coursework and exams carry different weights, use the weighted average calculator.
Common mistakes
- Comparing percentages across institutions with different scales, where the same number can be a different grade.
- Rounding up to reach a boundary. Most institutions apply the cut-off to the unrounded figure.
