What the Footing Calculator does

Footing concrete is the trench or hole volume. Strip footings run continuously under walls; pads carry individual columns; piers are circular holes, common for decks and fences.

Formula

  • Strip volume = Length × Width × Depth
  • Pad volume = Pad length × Width × Depth × Count
  • Pier volume = π × (Diameter ÷ 2)² × Depth × Count

Below the frost line and any soft ground — typically 450–1,000 mm depending on climate and soil. Local codes set the minimum.
