What the Brick Calculator does
Brick count divides wall area by the face area each brick occupies including its mortar joint. A standard UK brick with 10 mm joints occupies 225 × 75 mm, giving roughly 59 bricks per square metre for a single skin.

Frequently asked questions
How many bricks are in a square metre?
About 60 for standard UK bricks with 10 mm joints on a single skin, or 120 for a double-skin wall.
Should I deduct window openings?
Yes for anything substantial. Small openings are often left in as contingency, since brickwork produces breakages anyway.
