Sale Price Calculator
Work out the original price from a sale price, or the discount percentage from both.
What the Sale Price Calculator does
Reversing a discount is division, not addition. A $75 item at 25% off did not originally cost $93.75 — it cost $100, because 75 ÷ 0.75 = 100. This trips people up constantly when checking whether a "sale" is genuine.
Formula
Original = Sale price ÷ (1 − Discount)Discount % = (Original − Sale) ÷ Original × 100

Frequently asked questions
Why can I not just add 25% back to the sale price?
Because the discount was taken from the larger original figure. Adding 25% to $75 gives $93.75, but the true original was $100.
