Fraction to Percentage Calculator
Convert a fraction into a percentage and a decimal.
What the Fraction to Percentage Calculator does
Percent means "per hundred", so converting a fraction is a two-step move: divide to get the decimal, then multiply by 100.
Formula
Percentage = (Numerator ÷ Denominator) × 100
Inputs explained
| Input | Unit | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Numerator | number | Yes | — |
| Denominator | number | Yes | — |

Worked example
You answered 43 of 50 questions correctly.
- Numerator
- 43
- Denominator
- 50
43 ÷ 50 × 100 = 86%.
Reading the result
- A fraction, a decimal and a percentage are three notations for the same number: 3/4, 0.75 and 75% are interchangeable.
- Percentages above 100 are perfectly valid — an improper fraction such as 5/4 is 125%.
Common mistakes
- Moving the decimal point the wrong way. Converting to a percentage multiplies by 100, so 0.05 is 5%, not 0.05%.
- Rounding the decimal before multiplying, which magnifies the error a hundredfold.
Frequently asked questions
How do I go the other way?
Put the percentage over 100 and reduce. 86% becomes 86/100, which simplifies to 43/50.
