What the Flooring Calculator does
Flooring is bought in packs covering a fixed area, so the calculation is room area plus a waste allowance, divided by pack coverage and rounded up. The waste covers cuts at the edges, which grow with room complexity and plank direction.

How to use it

A 5 m × 4 m room, 2.2 m² per pack, 10% waste.

Area 20 m², with waste 22 m². 22 ÷ 2.2 = 10 packs exactly, supplying 22 m² with 2 m² spare.
Frequently asked questions
How much waste should I allow?
10% for a straight layout in a simple rectangular room. Go to 15–20% for diagonal patterns, angled walls or many alcoves.
Should I keep the offcuts?
Yes. Matching a discontinued batch years later is usually impossible, and a spare pack makes repairs straightforward.
