Reading the result
- Current is charge flowing per second. A phone charger delivers 1–3 A, a household ring circuit carries up to 32 A, and small-signal electronics work in milliamps.
Common mistakes
- Treating milliamp-hours as a measure of energy. mAh is charge, and energy needs the voltage too: 3,000 mAh at 3.7 V is about 11.1 Wh.
- Confusing amps with amp-hours. One is a rate of flow, the other is how much has flowed over time.

Milliamp-hours — how much current it can supply for how long. A 3,000 mAh battery delivers 3,000 mA for one hour, or 300 mA for ten.
